JUST A BIT OUTSIDE
Designed a longform content site for the most passionate baseball fans.
BACKGROUND
Fox Sports recruited our team to design a stylish, smart new site that would engage diehard baseball lovers with "passionate, nuanced, authentic" longform content.
The logo and design elements were inspired by classic baseball memorabilia like collectable cards, flags, adverticments, etc. SOLUTION
To express that passion and authenticity, we knew our art direction should be steeped in the traditional aesthetics of baseball's storied lineage. As a result, our design and brand direction was inspired by decades of baseball cards, memorabilia from junk shops, rare vintage uniforms, and Brooklyn Dodgers banners that hadn't been hung since 1955. More than mere nostalgia, we were targeting the core emotional connection that bonds true fans – typically from childhood – to America's pastime. We then translated the visual identity to a mobile-first reading experience, allowing each article to stand out and let fans get to the stories as easily as possible.
